September in Seoul (Day 1, 2023)

Made it! Arrived at Incheon Airport very early – so early that most of the airport was still asleep. Luckily, the convenience store was open so I began by having a burdock tea with a tuna-mayo triangle gimbap. The last leg of my travel was an 11 hour flight – which I shockingly slept 8 hours of, but I was still exhausted. Fueled by the snack, I navigated to my stay and dropped off my bags.

Walking around, everything was closed and most of the streets and alleys were completely empty.

I’ve never seen it so quiet; it was a bit unsettling.

Entrance to Seoul Forest Park

To pass the time, I decided to visit Seoul Forest. Like other parks in the area, it was part of the early 2000s effort to add green to the overly industrial Seoul landscape and added areas where people can be outdoors.

There’s something about the smell of a place – walking around, breathing in the scent of the rain and plants (roots? something almost spicy) was a wonderful way to ground my arrival.

Remainders of industrial past, inside a garden at Seoul Forest.

Afterwords, I stopped by Milestone Coffee for a much needed snack and jolt of caffeine.

Grabbed some more snacks and drinks at e-Mart before heading to my stay. I holed up and rested for the remainder of the day.

What’s on tomorrow?
